Joey Badass , the undeniably talented and prodigious rapper at just 23 is a worthy name to be mentioned alongside raps current superstars . The New York native is evolving and growing into a superstar before our eyes .He is no longer just the baby faced newcomer with a smooth flow, rhyming over beats that former greats such as Nas and Mos def would love relish jumping on. Joey Badass is on his way to the top of the rap game and just fresh off releasing his latest album All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ he is certainly hitting his stride. In the following article i am here to show you why in the near future Joey may take the throne away from J Cole or Kendrick when it comes to being considered the finest lyrical rapper alive .
1. He is simply a prodigy. Releasing a classic project (1999) at the age of 17
1999 Joey Badass's debut mixtape created shockwaves in the world of underground rap and Hip Hop . Many saw him as the new messiah of old school rap, reviving the style that that inspired nostalgia for Hip Hop purists who have a deep love for the 'Golden Age' of rap . Joey proved on 1999 that he has a talented ear for picking good beats , something not all rappers are blessed with and why some rappers careers may have declined due to that (Nas anyone?) . Not only did he have a gift of picking the right beats his level of pure talent is astronomic, he demonstrated an eerily gifted flow and socially conscious mature lyricism that you might only expect from a seasoned veteran .
2. He is a Modern Renaissance man
He is not just satisfied with being gifted a and acclaimed rapper . Joey is looking to expand his horizons as an artist as to him him art is about expressing yourself through all means available and not having limitations on what you create, or how you express yourself . That is why already we can see Joey making waves in the worlds of acting and fashion . He has made a notable cameo in the hit show Mr Robot ,within which he displayed some surprising acting chops. He has also been part of modelling campaigns for notable fashion lines such as Calvin Klein,Pacsun and Adidas .Its fair to say he is a Hip-Hop triple threat (sounds cheesy i know) as he can act, spit and has a unique style and look which lends itself well to the runway .
3. He has a relentless ambition and is not afraid to make bold statements which he can backup .
At just 22 Joey Bada$$ has done and said some outrageous things which really might seem nonsensical or arrogant , but seeing how his career is panning out it is fair to say the risks he took are paying off. First of all at just 18 Joey rejected a record deal with Roc Nation which may seem shortsighted but Joeys vision was spanned further than that. Not only does that require vision , bravery and a slight bit of madness but essentially displays Joeys willingness to bet on himself rather than choosing a path cut out for him on a established major label. Joey has also stated 'in a bar for bar i back myself over Pac but not in terms of influence or accolades'. As one of the best rappers of this generation why shouldn't he believe he could beat his idol in a rap battle . Idols and legends should be respected and adored but future generations should always look to respect their predecessors but learn from them and build on what they have created so i respect Joey for his self belief.
In conclusion . All we can do as fans of Hip Hop is watch Joey grow and evolve as an artist, and going off what we have already see him accomplish in his short time in the Hip Hop game plus the fact he has not even hit his prime yet , well i would kindly suggest that you do not sleep on Joey Bada$$ . He has the wit, the lyrics and the Brooklyn swagger. I believe there is no reason why Joey wont be known as one of raps greats by the time his career comes close to winding down .He has a formidable team around him, a loyal fanbase and is influenced by all the true greats of Hip-Hop such as Jay-z, Nas, Tupac and list goes on. One thing is for sure i wish the Brooklyn native good luck , he has made great strides to get to where he is now and he will only evolve from here on out.
